Kelley's Works in Progress
Looking for a better way
Please bear with us as we migrate to our new domain! There are some teething problems with having changed servers, and we hope to have them sorted in fairly short order...
Kelley's Works in Progress got started simply - we looked at things and thought there was a better way to solve the problem we were faced with. When dealing with mass-produced automotive parts, this is easier than you'd think!
Most of our parts are (or are going to be) things we got tired of replacing because some accountant in the corporate world decided that it was worthwhile to save a few cents on a part. We're not designing parts to figure out how to save a few cents (or a few dollars, for that matter,) but to make them the most reliable and easiest-to-use parts we can possibly make. Still, we're not in this to become millionaires - so we're going to make our pricing as reasonable as possible. Even if you have to pay us a little more, we think it will be worth it, since you're not likely to have to buy another one (unless you get another vehicle - there's only so much we can do!)
Works in Progress pricing is driven by material costs, so it is subject to change. Every effort will be made to keep pricing here - and in our catalogue - up-to-date at all times.
Also, every effort has been made to make this website like our parts - simple, reliable, and working with anything. You don't need a special browser or screen resolution to read our pages - nor do you need a high-speed connection. That's not what we're about - we're here to help! We're not about to clutter up your screen with big fancy pictures that take forever to load, multiple languages for you to figure out, or a lot of background graphics to try to look through. Simple, solid, direct - that's what we're trying to do here.
Who is Works in Progress? Right now, it's just me - Jon Kelley (or "5-90", if you've met me at NAXJA before you came here.) I'm just someone who fell in love with the Jeep Cherokee (and, by extension, all "real" Jeeps. The family of "real" Jeeps just doesn't include the WK, WJ, or KJ - and I'd really like to talk to the guys that designed those things...) and got tired of finding parts that just needed replacing due to bad design or material selection, or saw a need for upgrades that weren't being done, or replacement parts that looked good, but cost too damn much. There's always something that can be done by the willing - and I'm willing!
How'd we get started? Battery cables! I heard a lot of people complaining about the cost of aftermarket heavy-duty battery cables, so I decided to see what I could do about it. After a little digging around for materials costs and finished product costs, I decided that I could do the job at least as well - and for rather less money. The rest, as they say, is history.
Discussions lead to other goodies - a fully plug-and-play headlamp upgrade harness comes next, and a series of small "hard parts" are now in development. There will be more details on these (and other ideas as I get them!) on the following pages, so look around and see if there's anything you like!
If you'd like to get a copy of our catalogue for your offline reference, please click here. Note that this is a .pdf file that does not have functioning calculators, nor does it have pricing. I'll figure out if I can plug calculators into a .pdf file sooner or later, and I am keeping all pricing on the site for consistency. Otherwise, I'd be chasing all over and resolving conflicts all the time, and I wouldn't get anything else done...
