AMC 232 I6 Engine Specifications

Second of the AMC sixes, the 232 was used in Jeep vehicles through the 1960's and into the early 1970s, when it was "stroked" and replaced with the 258.

The 232 was itself a "stroked" version of the 199, which itself saw only automotive use. Adding a 232 crankshaft to a 199 engine will make a 232 - without changing any additional parts.

It is worth noting that the four AMC sixes (199, 232, 242, and 258) all share crankshaft dimensions (save only stroke - and crankshaft snout length) and camshaft dimensions. The 242 is the oddball, in that its bore is 3.875", rather than 3.750". The "bore centreline" spacing remains the same, however.

Around 1972, the block was altered to allow for an extra quarter-inch of deck height - the distance between the cylinder head mating surface and the crankshaft centreline. This did not affect displacement.
