Swappology
OK, I'll admit this one is a bit ambitious. However, I cut my mechanic's teeth restoring Corvettes from various years (1955 forward,) and when I wasn't building a powertrain component I was helping the body man, so I've got a pretty good idea how everything goes together on something simpler (like a Jeep.)
What I'm trying to do here is to build what will be the definitive A-to-Z Jeep Parts Interchange Guide. Just for fun, I thought I'd organise this as a series of classes - here's a tentative outline:
- 101 - Orientation. What you should already know before you start swapping things around
- 102 - Basic Practices. Planning and researching your swap job
- 103 - Engine Identification
- 104 - Transmission Identification
- 105 - Transfer Case Identification
- 106 - Axle Identification
- 200 - Engines
- 201 - AMC Inline Six
- 202 - Inline Four, All (AMC, GM, Perkins, Continental, ...)
- 203 - AMC V8
- 204 - General Motors V6 (mainly the 2.8/3.1/3.4L and Buick 225ci)
- 205 - MOPAR V8 (used in some later models - mainly 318 & 360)
- 301 - Transmissions, Automatic
- 302 - Transmissions, Manual
- 303 - Transfer Cases
- 304 - Drive Axles
- 401 - Body Panels
- 402 - Chassis Sections
Granted, since I'm still working on the thing, this could change at any time (but it seems to have finally crystallised this way.) Of course, if you've got anything you think I should add, or would like to see - I want to hear from you! These are going to be books driven by enthusiats, written by an enthusiast, and for enthusiasts, so tell me what you'd like to see in your book!
